German Chocolate Cake

German Chocolate Cake, YUMMY! It's my husband's favorite and often what he asks me to make on his birthday. It also happens to be his brother's favorite so I have made it for their birthdays as well!

This is such an easy cake and looks so elegant. People will think you worked for hours and you can just nod and let them think that!

First, you start with my basic Chocolate Cake Recipe and then you make the additional icing that makes it a German Chocolate Cake.

Let's get started.

Ingredients

Chocolate Cake Recipe (HERE)

Coconut Frosting:

- 1/2 cup light brown sugar

- 1/2 cup granulated sugar

- 1/2 cup butter

- 3 large egg yolks

- 3/4 cup evaporated milk

- 1 Tbsp vanilla

- 1 cup chopped pecans

- 1 cup shredded sweetened coconut

Instructions

- In a small sauce pan on medium heat, add everything together except pecans and coconut. Bring to a low boil and stir constantly until it start to thicken.

- Remove from heat and add pecans and coconut.

- Allow to completely cool before icing onto cake.

TIPS:

- The first time I made this, the above was way too much for the one cake I was making. Our family likes less icing and more cake. So, feel free to start with half of the above recipe. If your family enjoys the inch thick of icing then make the full recipe!

Let me know how it goes, leave comments and like/share with your family and friends! Happy baking,

Janel
