Let the De-Cluttering Begin!!!

Updated: Nov 3, 2021

So, it's been a while since I have posted. Somehow having 4 kids in activities has kept us busy, who would have thought?

Our boys are all Scouts, and we all have activities with church. I love it, but it can be tiring at times. We have come to a point where the house feels cluttered. Usually I stay on top of things and get rid of things often. But, we have been in such a busy season that I haven't been staying on top of it at all! For an organizer, I'm going crazy here!!! Can you relate?

Our school is having a fundraiser where we take donations to a local thrift store and we get paid by the pound. What better motivator to tackle the clutter than a fundrasier!

We started last weekend. We have been so blessed by friends handing down clothes to our boys, but it's been alot! So I told the kids we were going to minimize the amount of clothes we have. They had 3 criteria to ask themselves:

"Does it fit me?"

"Is it still in good shape?" I told them we wouldn't keep things with holes or stains I can't remove.

"Do I like it?" Often I buy them clothes without asking them, or we get clothes from friends that just aren't what they like.

As we went through, we quickly filled up 4 large trash bags. It felt so good to get rid of all of this! And it feels really good to know that someone else will be able to use the clothes and we will help make money for our school. It's a win-win-win!

Once you get started with even a small pile of things to go through, the feeling after you have gotten rid of the things you no longer need is such a freeing feeling! Every item you have in your home, office, car, etc. is taking up space in your thoughts! When you get rid of things, it's less that you have to clean up, put away and find space for! Our home isn't small, it's just too full.

So, I hope when you read this, you are encouraged to start your own de-cluttering if needed. Be encouraged that you are giving things to someone else who needs it. Be encouraged that you will feel less stress once you are finished! If you really need encouragement, find a friend or family member to help keep you accountable.

Happy Organizing!
